L'art Noir Gallery , which is located in the upper 9th Ward in New Orleans, sponsored a show for Mark Mothersbaugh's Beautiful Mutants prints back in 2006, which was the gallery's grand re-opening show following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We were more than happy to accept their invitation to show Mark's Postcard Diaries prints in 2008.

Since the show in late 2006, Jeffrey & Andrea at L'art Noir have continued to renovate their home & gallery with the help of their friends in the 9th Ward. They have expanded the gallery portion of the building, fixed the leaks in the roof, and are nearly finished with repairing the walls & other minor damage.

The opening reception featured a live video conference with Mark Mothersbaugh from his home in Holllywood, CA during the reception, which allowed gallery visitors to ask Mark questions regarding DEVO, his artwork, his scoring work at Mutato, etc.

This show exhibited 20 of Mark's Postcard Diaries, two of which were being shown for the first time. Mark is continuously creating new Postcard Diaries drawings, some of which are added to the tour as limited edition prints throughout the year.

Thanks to Jeffrey & Andrea again for all their hard work in hosting another successfull show, and to all the wonderful folks I met in New Orleans who made my stay enjoyable. Special thanks to my friend Anya, who helped me with the show during her visit to New Orleans from NC.

BTW: Be sure to check out the KRK Ryden show at L'art Noir Galllery later this year! The opening date was originally to be in February, but will be rescheduled soon. KRK created artwork for DEVO's catalogs & fanzine in the early 1980's.

Also: See some recent press for Jeffrey & Andrea of L'Art Noir - In The New York Times (Regarding their take on Brad Pitt's Pink Houses project in New Orleans). They based a recent art show on photos they covertly took of each other inside those pink houses.
