The opening reception at
North Water Street Gallery (aka Standing Rock Cultural Arts) was the second of 3 DEVO-related events in Ohio during the month of August 2005. First, DEVO
performed in Cleveland at the Scene Pavilion on the 18th. Then the gallery reception in Kent was on the 19th, followed by the DEVOtional fan gathering in Akron on the 20th. It was a great 3 days, to say the least.
Rev. Ivan Stang and Princess Wei, top cats of that
Subgenius church, were a joy to see as usual. I was happy to see David Kendrick there, too...who is known for his drum work with The Sparks, Gleaming Spires,
The Empire Of Fun, and DEVO. It was also great to meet Ray Packard at the show, who gave Mark Mothersbaugh his
very first art show in Ohio in 1975.
After the gallery reception,
The Spudboys and
The Paul Green School of Rock performed at a bar across the street as practice for their show at the DEVOtional event the next night.
Thanks to everyone for coming out, especially folks like
Tom Chiki, Andie Hammett, Rev. AbNorm, Scott Orsi, The Paul Green School of Rock folks, and anyone else who all traveled from far away to attend the DEVO events in Ohio. Hope to see you again soon.
