3rd Ward Gallery was the place to be on May 10th for
"The Super Thing", a DEVO Inspired Art Show in Brooklyn, NY.

This show was created & curated by NY DEVO fan, Alison B. Levy, who wanted to spread the word about DEVO's influence and insight on the world.

In addition to Mothersbaugh's art, it also featured other visual artists and live bands. The show featured Molleindustria's new video game, which joins spiritual deities in a fight for control of the world, as well as Yuliya Lanina's indecent rock n' roll Mechanical Doll, video mixing DEVO and Led Zeppelin by Mike Dee; mutant artwork by D. Dominick Lombardi, Victor Cox, Marcos Lorn Ortega; Jill Henderson's daily faxed drawings; Paul McGuirk's videos; Wayne Coe's dismembered prisoners; Michael Robinson's stealthy logos; and Cassie Thornton's Future Unincorporated satellite office.

3RD WARD is a relatively new artist collective which has been creating things and hosting interesting events since 2006. It is a member-based artists' co-op which houses two gorgeous photo studios, a professional wood and metal shop, a fully loaded digital media lab, an art gallery, shared office space and a multi-disciplinary continuing art education program.

20 of Mothersbaugh's framed Postcard Diaries prints were featured in the show, including a few prints which included DEVO specific imagery. (Those were the first prints to sell, of course!)

Mark Mothersbaugh was not able to attend in person, as he was at Kent State University accepting his honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree...for his creative contributions to the world of art & music. (CONGRATS, MARK!!) See his Kent State acceptance speech here (around 8 minutes into the video).

Thanks to Alison, Nikki, Jason, Dana, and the rest of the 3RD WARD crew for a great show. Thanks also to Steve-o, Mia, Stef & Matt, John Ray, Robert, Taylor, Tom, and all my NY friends for making my visit immensely enjoyable.
